morning self-love ritual…no matter how busy you are

Earthing

We all struggle to find time. Every year that we grow older we learn so much more about ourselves. This past year I really learned the importance of self-love. One of my new year’s resolutions was to create and commit to my “morning self-love ritual”. I realised that the mornings were the one time of day that I could claim as my own.

My alarm is set for 6:03am every morning and this time has become sacred to me, giving me space to reflect, be still, take stock and check-in with myself. It is pure, guilt-free, nowhere-else-I-need-to-be me time.

I've been practicing this morning ritual for the last few months. How you start your morning sets up the flow for the rest of your day. Depending on where I am, how much time I have, what’s going on in my life, what my body needs are, I tweak my morning self-love ritual as below.

1. Wake up with Journaling

I start with writing down three specific things I’m grateful for at this moment. I then answer the following two questions: How am I feeling today? What are my intentions for today? (I list 3 things that I would love to achieve, do or create today. Intention is super powerful). Journaling is my spiritual therapy. I write down my thoughts and I receive guidance back through the Universe/my higher self.

2. Five-minute meditation

Each day’s five-minute meditation is specific to whatever I am working on at present which could be a quick chakra balance, accessing my inner goddess, new moon or full moon healing, self-love, forgiveness, releasing or just connecting to Source for guidance. Some days it’s just five minutes of sound bath healing or stillness. Search YouTube or meditations apps on the App Store.

3. 7-minute workout

Every little bit of exercise that you can squeeze into your day adds up for big benefits over time. Instead of skipping out on exercise due to your busy schedule and then feeling guilty for it, doing something active, even if it’s just for a few minutes, is always possible. I leave my Pilates mat and a few weights and resistance bands in the living room, so I am ready for my 7-minute workout every morning. I have a few women’s 7-minute workout apps on my phone and alternate between them each morning. I also mix this time up with yoga app and stretching.

4. Earthing (grass, beach or rock)

Being an Earth Sign and working with higher energies daily, a big part of balance to me means to feel grounded and connected to Mother Earth. Putting my feet on the earth for a few minutes every morning allows me to recharge, vibrationally align and feel connected. “Earthing” whether on the grass, sand, rocks is part of my daily practice for grounding. I visualise roots of light from the soles of my feet connecting the crystal grids at the core of Mother Earth allowing her to ground and recharge me to start my day.

5. Dry body brushing

Fast, effective, numerous health benefits…what’s not to love about dry body brushing in the morning? Your skin, the largest organ in the human body is an organ of elimination. The benefits of dry skin brushing include increasing the circulation to the skin to reduce the appearance of cellulite, helps shed dead skin cells and encourages new cell renewal, improves vascular blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, rejuvenates the nervous system and helps your skin to absorb nutrients by eliminating clogged pores.

Use a natural (not synthetic) bristle brush with a long handle so can reach all areas of your body. Get naked and stand in the shower. Begin brushing by starting at your feet and moving in long sweeping motions toward your heart. Always brush toward your heart. Brush several times in each area, overlapping as you go. Once you've brushed your entire body, shower.

By shower time, the house is stirring and I start my day.

Whether you have five minutes or an hour, take time for morning self-love, whatever that looks like for you. Feed your body, spirit and soul and your body, spirit and soul will feed you. Through my “morning self-love ritual” I am treating myself with love, kindness and respect. I am putting myself first every morning. I am also listening to my needs, connecting with self and what’s important to me. I feel more in control of my day and able to handle with more confidence and calmness what comes up in my day.

That is the power of having a morning self-love ritual.
